Carn Engineering is an independent engineering inspection company operating throughout Ireland and the UK. We provide statutory engineering inspections, engineering examinations and certification for a wide range of workplace machinery and equipment.

Our Story
Carn Engineering was founded by Gary Keenan, a Chartered Engineer whose career spans more than 30 years across heavy industry, quarry operations and engineering inspection.

Gary began his working life as a heavy plant fitter in marine civil engineering before moving into quarry management with one of the UK’s major aggregate and blacktop producers. These early roles gave him first‑hand insight into the operational pressures, safety challenges and real‑world risks faced by industrial businesses.
​
His move into the inspection sector marked a defining shift. Starting as an engineer surveyor, Gary progressed to senior leadership and ultimately became Chief Engineer, responsible for overseeing complex inspection programmes and setting high technical standards. His reputation for precision, fairness and practical problem‑solving became well known across the industry.

In 2022, Gary established Carn Engineering with a clear purpose: to deliver inspection services that don’t just meet regulatory requirements, but genuinely improve safety and culture within the organisations they serve.

Industry Leadership
Gary’s influence extends beyond Carn Engineering. He is an active member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Bureau of Engineer Surveyors, and has contributed extensively to industry development through the Safety Assessment Federation (SAFed).

His involvement has included roles on the Board of Directors, the Technical Steering Committee, and the Technical Committee for Lifts & Cranes — positions that reflect his commitment to strengthening inspection standards and ensuring they evolve with modern engineering practice.
